Ten Hair Brushing Tips | All Natural | Take Care

Ten Hair Brushing Tips :

1. Do not use brushes with broken or damaged bristles or quills. Using such brushes can tear and snag your hair as well as scratch your scalp.

2. Brush your hair in the morning and before going to bed. You should also do it before shampooing to get rid of tangles, dead skin cells and dirt.

3. If your hair is really tangled or backcombed, you first need to loosen up any knots. You can do this by using a wide toothed comb.

4. You can pull and tug your hair with over-zealous strokes. So, always brush gently.

5. Wet hair should not be brushed. Use a wide toothed comb to untangle. Go from the ends up towards the roots.

6. Ignore the suggestion of 100 brush strokes every day. This can lead to a few problems: promote breakage and split ends, cause stress to the hair and over stimulate the production of sebum, making hair greasy.

7. Normal brushing can give hair a luminous, glossy shine. When you brush your hair, the cuticles lie flat, therefore reflecting more light. As a result, enhanced shine is created.

8. Sebum oil is a hair’s natural conditioner. Brushing spreads it down the hair shaft to make hair glossy.

9. Brushing stimulates the blood flow to the hair follicles improving healthy growth.

10. You must keep your brushes clean. Wash them on a regular basis in hot soapy water.

Does it Work?

Before I lead you on a wild goose chase for all the products mentioned below, and send you off into the kitchen to make yourself some hair straightening gravy, let me tell you this: I'm not so sure it works. See, all the comments on BlackHairInformation state that the mixture does result in soft, defined, looser coils, but not anything that is necessarily straight.
However, if the treatment loosens the coils of type 4s, then it is likely that for wavies and curlies (type 2 and type 3), it will straighten your tresses. So, textured hair community, we turn to you. Is the all natural hair straightening treatment merely myth or Mary-sent magic?

To the Kitchen!

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

1 Cup Coconut Milk
2 Tablespoons Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Juice of One Fresh Lemon (Or about 4 tablespoons of lemon or lime juice)
3 tablespoons cornstarch

  1. In a saucepan, pour the coconut milk and olive oil together and whisk until smooth. In a separate small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and fresh lemon juice until there are no lumps. You can start with a few tablespoons, but you may need all four.
  2. When you’re finished, whisk the cornstarch mixture into the coconut milk mixture and put the saucepan over medium heat while continuously whisking. Just like when you’re making gravy, the heat and whisking will liven up the cornstarch, causing it to thicken the liquid. You’ll want to do this until your mixture reaches the consistency of conditioner.
  3. Working in small sections, apply a liberal amount of the mixture to your hair to ensure that all hair receives the treatment.
  4. Cover your hair in a shower cap and wrap sit under a hood dryer. If you don’t have access to a hood dryer, you can also wrap your head in a hot towel. Just put a towel in a microwave-safe bowl full of water and heat it up for a few minutes, then — using gloved hands — wring out the excess water. Wrap the towel around your covered hair for about 30 minutes.
  5. Shampoo your hair as usual and follow it up with a deep conditioner. Then, set your hair with large rollers, cover it with a shower cap and sit under the dryer. Alternatively, you can let it air dry.
  6. If you’re not opposed to using a flat-iron, doing so will give your hair the most sleek finish. Just be sure you use a heat protectant!

Natural Tips & Techniques for Hair Straightening

Natural Tips & Techniques for Hair Straightening

Straight hair…It is known for its glossy and slick appearance, and as a result, it enhances the visual appeal of a person. Straight hair is popular in both men and women; however, not many people are blessed with naturally straight hair, and often turn to chemical treatments to get the desired result. The finished look and the immediate results of salon-treated hair are the main reasons why people opt for the straightening treatment.

But the harsh chemicals and the heated straightening irons which are used over and over during the treatment will damage the hair significantly. And moreover, the cost and the extensive maintenance routine may act as a dampener for some.

Techniques and Home Remedies

There are some tips, techniques and home remedies which are very effective, and they help in controlling frizz and straightening the tresses naturally. Home remedies may not provide as impressive results as the salon treatment methods, but they score on cost effectiveness and are completely damage free. Some efficient home remedies for straight hair are as follows.

► Using a spray bottle, splash milk onto the hair. Now by using a comb distribute the milk evenly through the hair. Then rinse the hair after 30 minutes. As a result, milk protein fortifies the hair shafts making them smooth and frizz free. This works well for people with curly hair.

► Regular massage with hot oil, conditions the hair and removes frizz. Oil treatments make hair appear straight and glossy.

► Apply warm olive or coconut oil on the hair and scalp. Cover the hair with a warm towel and allow it to soak in for 30 minutes. Wash the hair and comb hair while it is wet. Repeat the process at least thrice a week.

► Castor oil is very helpful in straightening the hair.

► We all know that coconut milk contains nutrients. Its believed that these nutrients help to straighten the hair. Use coconut milk as a last rinse after every hair wash. Leave the milk on the hair for 5 to 10 minutes and rinse off. Repeat this regularly to see the effective results.

► Take one lemon into a cup of coconut milk and mix them well. Now keep the mixture in the refrigerator for 15 to 30 minutes or until a creamy film is formed. Apply this mixture on the hair for 30 minutes and rinse off.

► Make a paste by mixing egg white(from one egg), one cup of fuller’s earth, and five teaspoons of rice flour. Apply the mix on the hair and comb through. Leave the mask on the hair for one hour and wash off with a mild shampoo. For best results use this mask regularly once a week.

► Make a paste by mixing two mashed bananas and two tablespoons each of natural yoghurt, honey, and olive oil. Add one egg white to the above mixture and mix thoroughly. Then apply the prepared mask to the hair and cover with a shower cap. Leave the mask on for 30 minutes and wash off with a mild shampoo.

► Mix half cup of warm oil (you can use any oil like olive oil, coconut oil, or castor oil) with half cup of aloe vera gel. Then mix in six drops of essential oil like rosemary and sandalwood. Massage the prepared mixture into the hair and scalp and wash off after 1 to 2 hours.

Tips

► Use a conditioner to condition the hair properly after every wash. There are some good conditioners available which control the frizz and relax the hair.

► Moisturize the hair with herbs. Some herbs such as chamomile, rose geranium, rose, lavender, cedar wood, calendula, burdock, and sandalwood will soften the hair cuticle and straighten the hair. Make a herb infusion by boiling five teaspoons of above mentioned herbs in two cups of water. Then mix in a tablespoon of vinegar and use the infusion on the hair in place of the conditioner. Do not wash out.

► It is also important that you need to pay careful attention to the health of your hair. Therefore following a proper diet, drinking plenty of water and also protecting the hair from excessive sun exposure is important to have the healthy hair.

All the above home remedies/treatments give excellent results, if done regularly. These homemade remedies relax the hair shaft and smooth the curls and waves. The result is a straighter, healthier, and shinier mane without any extra cost or damage.
